A Lagos-Based Engineer Accuses Police Officers of Misconduct, Files Petition with IGP

A Lagos-based engineer and property owner, Olufemi Fasehun, has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over what he describes as grave misconduct and abuse of authority by police personnel under the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.

In a statement issued through his legal counsel, Goldrush Partners, Fasehun alleged that officers from the Monitoring Unit—led by Chief Superintendent of Police Taofiq Sanni—illegally entered and sealed his property located at No. 10 Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos, on three separate occasions: June 4, 5, and 20, 2025.

The petition, dated July 2, 2025, and addressed to the Complaint Response Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, accuses the police team of violating legal procedure under the pretext of enforcing an interim court order. Fasehun claims the officers carried out an unauthorized arrest, sealed off his premises (which houses Paradox Restaurant), and subjected both him and a tenant to degrading treatment.

“Our client is the lawful owner of the said property, with title supported by a registered deed of indenture, a survey plan, and an enforceable court ruling,” the statement reads in part. “Despite these legal protections, the officers acted without proper authority and in clear defiance of established legal processes.”

The property is currently the subject of a legal dispute (Suit No. ID/11239LMW/2021: Olufemi Fasehun v. Cletus Nwagwu & Ors), which includes an interlocutory order instructing all parties to maintain the status quo. According to Fasehun’s legal team, their client has abided by this directive and submitted the required affidavit affirming compliance.

The petition further alleges that instead of initiating contempt proceedings as required by law—using Forms 48 and 49—the opposing parties bypassed due process and influenced the police to take matters into their own hands.

Fasehun’s lawyers argue that the officers effectively acted as agents for the complainants, ignoring valid documentation and disregarding the authority of the civil court. They claim the property and its associated business were unlawfully sealed without any formal court directive authorizing such action.

The statement also claims that the complainants presented a counterfeit document purporting to be a Supreme Court judgment, which was used to justify the police’s initial intervention.

According to the petition, CSP Sanni allegedly threatened to arraign Fasehun in court on July 1, 2025, despite the fact that the matter is actively being heard by Justice Oshoala at the Ikeja High Court.

“These actions have not only caused significant financial loss and emotional distress for our client, but they have also compromised the credibility of our justice system,” the petition concluded. “The conduct of the Zonal Monitoring Unit strays far from the lawful duties of the police and demands immediate scrutiny.”

The petition calls on the Inspector-General of Police to launch a comprehensive investigation into the matter and to take urgent steps to safeguard Fasehun’s constitutional rights.

As of the time of this report, Zone 2 Command has not responded to requests for comment.
