APC Dominates Ogun LG Elections, Claims All Chairmanship and Councillorship Seats

APC
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Ogun State Local Government elections, securing all 20 chairmanship positions and 236 councillorship seats, as announced by Babatunde Osibodu, Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC). The results were revealed in the early hours of Sunday during a live broadcast from Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
Osibodu stated that a total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship elections across the state’s 20 local government areas. He also noted that 19 political parties participated in the elections, including notable ones such as the Accord Party, Labour Party, African Democratic Congress, and the Peoples Democratic Party, among others.
Despite the APC’s clean sweep, the results have been met with widespread criticism. Opposition parties have rejected the outcome, with several questioning the transparency and fairness of the process. The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Chairman in Ogun, Femi Aina, accused OGSIEC of mishandling the election, alleging irregularities such as the use of business cards for voting, inadequate ballot papers, and delays in election materials. Aina called on the state’s House of Assembly to investigate the alleged chaos.
Similarly, Lookman Jagun, Chairman of the Labour Party in Ogun, denounced the election as a “sham” and demanded the cancellation of the results, citing violations of the state’s electoral laws. Jagun also suggested that the public had voiced similar concerns, with many claiming no proper election took place.
Dr. Sunday Solarin, Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun, also joined the chorus of opposition voices, labeling the election as fraudulent and accusing APC supporters of attacking members of rival parties.
