Appeal Court Confirms Julius Abure as Labour Party National Chairman

A three-judge panel of the Court of Appeal has reaffirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, stating that its earlier ruling from November 13, 2024, which recognizes Abure’s position, remains valid and has not been overturned by any other court.
Justice Hamma Barka delivered the judgment, addressing two separate appeals filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the Labour Party’s caretaker committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The appellate court clarified that it did not examine the leadership dispute within the Labour Party, as such matters are not subject to judicial review. The court emphasized that any ruling made outside of proper jurisdiction is void. Therefore, it dismissed the Federal High Court’s ruling of October 8, 2024, by Justice Emeka Nwite, asserting that it lacked jurisdiction and had no legal effect.
In striking out the case for lack of jurisdiction, the appellate court reiterated its earlier November 2024 decision, affirming that “Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour
Party.”
