President Tinubu Applauds Governors for Backing Tax Reform Bills

President Bola Tinubu has expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for their unanimous support of the four Tax Reform Bills currently before the National Assembly.
The president praised the governors for their leadership and commitment to fostering national unity, overcoming regional, ethnic, and political divides to drive Nigeria’s progress.
The recent consultation between the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy is seen as a positive example of collaboration between the federal and state governments.
Special recognition was given to Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, for effectively rallying his colleagues to support these critical tax reforms aimed at revitalizing the economy and improving the country’s investment environment.
Tinubu also acknowledged the role of the Progressive Governors Forum, the Northern Governors Forum, and other groups in helping to resolve the issues surrounding the tax bills.
The president emphasized that the primary goal of the Tax Reform Bills is to prioritize the needs of the poor, enhance the national economy, and attract both domestic and foreign investment. He stressed the importance of modernizing the country’s outdated tax laws to achieve these objectives.
Tinubu also highlighted the productive dialogue between the Governors’ Forum and the Presidential Committee as an example of how constructive discussions can help resolve disagreements.
Reaffirming the critical role of governors in nation-building, the president reiterated his commitment to working with them to foster economic growth, peace, and stability in Nigeria.
He further encouraged other stakeholders to contribute their ideas and suggestions during the ongoing legislative process at the National Assembly.
Finally, President Tinubu called on the National Assembly to expedite the passage of the Tax Reform Bills so that the country can quickly benefit from these essential reforms.
