Bayelsa Policemen Arrested for Allegedly Extorting ₦3 Million
Several officers from the Zone 16 Command in Yenagoa, Bayelsa, have been detained by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly extorting ₦3 million from a man. Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi announced the arrests on his official social media account.
Adejobi noted that the policemen were taken into custody after an internal investigation and will be transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further proceedings.
“The officers involved in the ₦3 million extortion case have been arrested. They are from Zone 16 Command in Yenagoa, and the command has been directed to present them at the Force Headquarters,” Adejobi stated.
He reassured the public of the Force Headquarters’ dedication to reforming the police and ensuring accountability in all reported cases.
The allegations surfaced after Kelechi Isaac, a Nigerian man living in Ghana, posted a video on social media claiming that he was extorted at gunpoint by Bayelsa police officers. Isaac, originally from Nguru Nworie in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, had returned to Nigeria for a friend’s traditional wedding when the incident occurred.
