Boko Haram Infiltrates IDP Camps in Borno, Governor Zulum Warns

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has expressed deep concern over the infiltration of Boko Haram insurgents into Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, warning that these militants are using the camps as safe havens after carrying out attacks.

During a resettlement event for 3,800 displaced individuals in the Konduga Local Government Area, Zulum highlighted the increasing security threats posed by insurgents mingling with vulnerable populations.

He called on the Nigerian Army and other security forces to act swiftly to secure the camps and protect the displaced persons.

Zulum stated, “We can’t allow this to continue. Boko Haram has infiltrated IDP camps, committing atrocities and causing further insecurity.”

He also raised alarms about social issues within the camps, such as drug abuse and prostitution among young girls, which he believes are undermining the state’s cultural integrity.

In light of these challenges, Zulum announced plans to rebuild several communities, including Awulari village in Konduga, and to construct 500 housing units in the Sandiya area ahead of the upcoming rainy season.

Additionally, he provided financial and material support to returning residents to help them restart their lives, while urging them not to sell the assistance they receive.
