Breaking news: David Edgar shares instant reaction as Rangers make Robin Propper …
David Edgar has shared his instant reaction after Rangers announced the signing of Robin Propper from FC Twente.
The club confirmed [1 August] that the centre-back has joined the Gers after undergoing routine medical tests in Manchester on 31 July [Anthony Joseph].
Rangers took to social media to officially announce the signing, to which the Heart and Hand podcast founder reacted almost straight away.
Writing via his personal X account on Thursday (1 August), he said: “I’ll forgive them for that pun as I’m glad he’s here.”
Philippe Clement adds Robin Propper to the Rangers ranks
Following Connor Goldson’s emotional exit to Aris Limassol, on a deal believed to be worth £1.4m [Derek Clark], Philippe Clement needed to ensure he added a defensive backup this summer.
While Leon Balogun has put pen to paper on a one-year extension, he is unlikely to play a regular role for the Gers as they compete in several competitions, including Champions League qualification.
Propper, 30, arrives at Ibrox with bags of talent and potential, with some fans already suggesting that he could be the new captain if he settles into life in Scotland quickly enough.
Although he has little experience in Europe or international football, his CV is fully stacked after spells with De Graafschap, Heracles and FC Twente.
The defender’s tall stature makes him an extremely useful asset in defence, but it seems he is equally as key at the opposite end, having scored 11 goals in 115 appearances for Twente.
Goals have been somewhat hard to come by for the Gers, with right-back James Tavernier carrying most of the weight on his shoulders despite Cyriel Dessers bagging 20 times in his first season.
Clement will certainly be looking to take advantage of Propper’s ability in both boxes, though the defensive side of his game will be the most important part of the addition this summer.
In other Rangers news, Gordon Dalziel has shared a James Tavernier exit stance amid “shambles” at Ibrox.
