BSU Students Union Reject Hiked Tuition Fee, Urge Students to Pend Payment & Demands Immediate reversal of Fee
In a press release, by the Students Union Executive, stated below:
BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ UNION COMMUNIQUE
To: All Students of Benue State University Date: 30/05/2024 Subject: Resolutions on Recent School Fees and hostel fees Increment
We, the leadership of the Students’ Union wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from the recent increments in school fees. We were not consulted in this decision, and we stand with the student body in opposition to this unjustified hike.
Following an extensive meeting with the general student representatives across all faculties and departments, we have unanimously agreed on the following resolutions:
1. No Student Should Pay School Fees or Hostel Accommodation Fees: All students are advised not to make any school fee payments or hostel accommodation fees until the university management addresses this increment with the entire student body.
2. Engagement with Government Stakeholders: We will actively engage with government stakeholders related to education to address our concerns and seek their intervention.
3. Transparent Communication: We are committed to ensuring that all decisions are made transparently and that students are kept fully informed throughout this process.
4. Students’ Union Budget: We express our strong disapproval of the management’s prolonged refusal to fund the Students’ Union budget which was approved by the Students parliament despite students having paid dues for the last session. Additionally, management’s claim of expending from our Union dues without informing us is unacceptable. Our funds are with the management. and it is imperative that any expenses relating to using our funds be done with our knowledge and consent.
This communique aims to convey the decisions made while ensuring that students are informed and involved in the process.
We urge all students to remain united and steadfast as we work towards a fair resolution.

REQUEST FOR AN INTERFACE OF THE GENERAL STUDENTS BODY WITH THE SCHOOL MANAGEMENT.
We write on behalf of the general student representatives to inform you that we recently held a meeting to discuss several concerns that have come to our attention from the students, notably, the increment of school fees. After thorough deliberation, we have resolved that it would be most beneficial to meet with the school management to seek clarification and address these issues directly
The students resolved to meet with management on or before Monday the 3/06/2024 to understand the ambiguities surrounding Students user charges.
We believe that an open dialogue will not only help in resolving these concerns but also strengthen the communication between the student body and the school administration.
