Burna Boy Allegedly Gave Police Cash Bundles, Lawyer Claims Amid Speed Darlington’s Continued Detention

Speed Darlington’s lawyer has accused the police of unlawfully detaining the singer despite a court order granting him bail on December 23, 2024. The claims surfaced after Darlington’s arrest on November 27, 2024, over allegations of cyberstalking Burna Boy.
After spending nearly a month in detention, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted Darlington bail, yet the police have continued to hold him, prompting outrage from his supporters and legal team.
In a recent update on the case, lawyer Alieke, who has reportedly exhausted all his connections to secure Darlington’s release, accused the police of defying the court’s ruling. Speaking on Instagram, Alieke suggested that Burna Boy may have used bribery to influence the police and keep Darlington incarcerated.
“We’ve done everything a lawyer can do. I’ve reached out to political connections and used all possible channels, but the police have blatantly ignored the court order. There’s no reason for them to continue holding Darlington after the court granted him bail,” the lawyer said.
He went on to recount an incident from Darlington’s first arrest in October, where he claims to have seen Burna Boy sharing cash bundles with the police after a meeting. “I saw Burna with his team, and after the meeting, he handed over bundles of money to the officers, who even asked for selfies. I warned my staff that if Burna made another mistake, this would happen again.”
