It was a day of celebration, pride, and heartfelt recognition in Ipetu Ijesa as Amb. Chief Olaniyi Francis Ilesanmi, popularly known as Ijoba Federal, was officially appointed as the Chief Patron of the Osun State Chapter of the Friends of Seyi Tinubu (FOST), a fast-growing humanitarian movement committed to community development.

The grand event took place on Saturday, August 30th, at the Ipetu Ijesa Palace Hall, and it drew dignitaries, youth leaders, political stakeholders, and residents from far and near. The atmosphere was enthused as many came to honour a man whose name has become synonymous with giving, growth, and grassroots impact.

Chief Olaniyi, a frontline APC chieftain and Senatorial aspirant for Osun East, holds the prestigious traditional title of Majeobaote I of Ipetu Ijesa Kingdom. His appointment as the Chief Patron of FOST recognises his unwavering dedication to humanitarian causes and tireless efforts to bring development to communities across Osun State.

The programme was anchored by his Director General, Tolu Oni, who ensured the day’s activities flowed smoothly.

In his remarks, Hon. Ajimati, Executive Chairman of Oriade South LCDA, praised Chief Ilesanmi for his numerous contributions to Ijesa land and beyond. He described him as a man who “does not wait for titles before he acts” and highlighted his efforts in facilitating impactful projects across the senatorial district. Hon. Ajimati also took the opportunity to urge everyone to register and collect their PVCs, stressing the importance of active civic participation.

One of the most emotional moments of the day came from Comr. Opeyemi Omopitan (OPJ), a former youth leader and childhood friend of Chief Olaniyi. He shared touching stories from their school days, recalling how Olaniyi was not only the Senior Prefect in 1998 but also the best student of his set both in Elefosan secondary school and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology(LAUTECH), where he studied Chemical Engineering, he continued to shine. He spoke of how Chief Olaniyi has always used his platform to lift others, especially the less privileged among their old classmates. He noted major projects spearheaded by the Chief, including a Mega Filling Station in Ipetu Ijesa, which is now over 60% completed.

Former National Association of Ipetu Ijesa Students(NAIIS), National Body President, Comr. Obisesan, also spoke highly of Chief Ilesanmi’s consistent support during his time in office. Similarly, Comr. Omotoso Timilehin, the current NAIIS National President, echoed those sentiments, praising the Chief for always answering the call whenever the students needed help.

Coach Moses Olawoye appreciated him for his unwavering support in the area of sports, especially football competitions, where he’s known to provide quick financial help when the need arises.

One of the Ipetu Ijesa elders, Comr. Ojo Oluwole Joseph (Baba Josy), described him as a man who has always been resourceful and humble since his youth. He called him a “redeemer” and offered prayers for the fulfilment of his dreams.

The highlight of the event was the formal reading of his profile and the presentation of his letter of appointment by a representative of FOST, greeted with thunderous applause and cheers.

 

After the ceremony, Chief Ilesanmi held a brief interactive session with a group of Ipetu Ijesa youths. In the meeting, he requested their support to repair potholes on the town’s major roads, with the work scheduled to begin the next day, Sunday. He promised to provide all necessary equipment for the project, emphasising that development is a collective responsibility.

 

In his closing remarks, he encouraged the youth to always support programmes that serve the common good, rather than selfish interests. He promised inclusive governance that listens, involves, and works with the people at all levels, with a vision to truly transform the Osun East Senatorial District, if given the opportunity to serve.
