A fatal crane accident at a construction site in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, has led to the death of a crane operator identified as Rotimi Adesina. The tragic incident has prompted immediate action from the Lagos State Safety Commission, which has since sealed off the site pending a full investigation, Eyes of Lagos reports.
🚨 Immediate Response and Site Closure

According to the Commission, Adesina sustained severe injuries while operating the crane and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Following initial findings, officials from the Lagos State Safety Commission quickly moved in to secure the site and halt all ongoing activities.
The Director-General of the Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, confirmed that an abatement notice was served and the site was officially closed until further notice. “Safety is non-negotiable, and there must be zero tolerance for lapses that put lives at risk,” Mojola stated.
📝 Project Documents Under Review
During the visit, the Project Manager, Hein Coerzer, and the Company Secretary, Ndidi Uchechukwu, were asked to produce all safety-related documentation, including those pertaining to the crane’s operation. The Commission noted that the requested records are held at the company’s head office and must be submitted for a full compliance assessment.

Mojola extended heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased, describing the event as both avoidable and deeply unfortunate. He reiterated the government’s dedication to enforcing stringent safety measures across all construction activities in the state.
“This kind of incident underscores the urgent need for proactive safety enforcement. We will continue to clamp down on unsafe practices to ensure tragedies like this don’t happen again,” Mojola said.
