Cult leader was killed in Ogun by rival cult, police arrest suspected murderer

Cult clashes

A suspected leader of the Eiye confraternity identified simply as Oloba was reportedly killed by a rival cult group in the wee hours of Thursday.

FIRST CLASS GISTS gathered that Oloba was attacked by suspected members of a rival cult group in the Ijeja area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State while entering his house and was shot at by the assailants.

An eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity for fear of being attacked disclosed that the assailants who entered the street from an adjoining street around 11 pm on Thursday, shot at Oloba while he was disembarking from his vehicle.

The source said, “We were seated somewhere in the street when we heard a gunshot from a close distance and before we could observe what was happening, the gunmen had zoomed off on a bike.

When we realised what had happened, we discovered that it was Oloba that was shot. He was shot in his chest which resulted in his death. He is a known member of the Eiye Confraternity. I think those guys who shot him were Alora members.”

The source disclosed further that efforts by some residents to get him to the hospital were not successful as he reportedly died before they could get him to the hospital.

When contacted for reaction, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, confirmed the incident to our correspondent in a telephone conversation on Sunday.

There was a reported case of cult killing. I am in a meeting now but will get back to you when I am through,” Alamutu said.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Samuel Odubola for allegedly stabbing a neighbour identified as Seun Ogunniyi to death in the Ogijo area of the state.

FIRST CLASS GISTS gathered from a police source on Saturday that the incident occurred at about 6:30pm on Thursday following an argument that ensued between the duo.

Although our correspondent could not independently ascertain the cause of the argument between the 20-year-old suspect and Ogunniyi, the source said the deceased sustained a deep cut in the chest, which later led to his death.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Saturday, said that the victim could not survive the wound despite efforts made by the doctors who attended to him.

He was rushed down to the General Hospital in Ikorodu for medical treatment after sustaining the wound but was later confirmed dead. The suspect initially escaped after committing the crime. But our men smoked him out of his hideout. Preliminary investigation has begun,” she said.
