Afrobeats icon Davido has voiced his frustration with Nigeria’s political leadership, describing the government as the worst he’s encountered, while celebrating the creative industry’s role in reshaping the country’s international reputation.

During a recent interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music, the multi-award-winning artist expressed dismay over the state of governance in Nigeria but commended the entertainment sector for positively influencing how the nation is perceived worldwide.

“I’m proud that our music and entertainment have changed the narrative. We definitely don’t have great leaders—our governments are among the worst,” Davido remarked.

He highlighted how music and culture have become powerful tools in promoting Nigeria globally, drawing attention from international audiences and boosting tourism.

“The entertainment scene is really making a difference. It’s even bringing tourists here. Last December, I saw more Americans in Lagos than Nigerians—I was honestly surprised,” he said.

Davido also emphasized the broader impact of African creativity, pointing out the increasing presence of African talent in global fashion and arts.

“It’s not just about music anymore—it’s a cultural wave. Look at events like Paris Fashion Week—Africans dominate the runways and even lead behind the scenes as creative directors. It’s something to be proud of.”
