Dele Farotimi Controversy: See Reasons CDHR/CACOL Refuse to Join Protest, Says Adeniran

Debo Adeniran, an activist and leader of the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), has announced that neither CACOL nor the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights (CDHR) will participate in the upcoming protest scheduled for Tuesday. The protest has been organized by some groups in response to the ongoing dispute between prominent lawyer Chief Afe Babalola and human rights advocate Dele Farotimi.

In an interview with Daily Independent in Lagos on Monday, Adeniran clarified that his organizations typically engage in protests focused on national issues that require urgent attention and public awareness. He emphasized that protests should only be mobilized when critical matters of national significance are being overlooked by the authorities.

Adeniran also offered his perspective on Farotimi’s recent detention, stating that it was unwarranted, as there was no evidence to suggest that Farotimi had ignored or refused a prior invitation. He further called for Farotimi’s trial to be conducted transparently, fairly, and in accordance with humane principles, given the nature of the charges. Adeniran indicated that he would provide a more detailed statement on the issue in the near future.
