Dogara: Tinubu’s Fuel Subsidy Announcement Lacks Constitutional Backing

Former Speaker Yakubu Dogara has stated that President Bola Tinubu did not actually remove the fuel subsidy, despite announcing it.Â
Dogara explained that there was no budget provision for fuel subsidy prior to Tinubu’s announcement, arguing that it is impossible to suspend a subsidy that wasn’t accounted for in the budget.
He emphasized that while the removal was a positive step for Nigeria, the constitutional framework of the budget did not support any payments for the subsidy.
