Driver crushes teacher to death, flees in Osun

A teacher in Odeomu, Osun State, identified simply as Okunola, has been crushed to death by a driver, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained.
He was said to be travelling in a car from Ibadan heading to Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
After the accident, which occurred Tuesday, the driver of the car reportedly fled the scene, as angry residents razed down the car he drove.
A statement by the spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kehinde Adeleke, on Wednesday said the deceased had gone to the market to buy cassava peels.
Adeleke added that while trying to board a motorcycle, a car suddenly ran into the market and hit the teacher, killing him on the spot, which led to violent reactions from the residents.

“The victim bought cassava peels at the Obada Market and was attempting to board a motorcycle, when the car him.
People in the vicinity set the car ablaze immediately they confirmed the passing away of the victim. The driver of the car escaped from the scene and his whereabouts is unknown.”
Urging motorists to ensure strict adherence to traffic laws, Adeleke said the Osun NSCDC State Commandant, Mr. Michael Adaralewa, also implored residents to assist law enforcement agencies in keeping roads in the state safe by obeying laws.
