DSS ARRESTS FIVE POLICE AND IMMIGRATION OFFICERS OVER ALLEGED MISCONDUCT DURING EL-RUFAI’S ARRIVAL

Five security personnel have been detained following the arrival of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on February 12, 2026.
The officers, drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Immigration Service and Aviation Security (AVSEC), were arrested after a joint investigation into alleged breaches of security protocol.
According to security sources, the officers are accused of accepting bribes to grant unauthorized access to restricted sections of the airport during El-Rufai’s return from abroad. Authorities say the action disrupted standard security procedures and compromised operational guidelines.
Those reportedly detained include Ayuba Yakubu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police; Murtala Inuwa, a DSS operative; Najeeb Murtala, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration; and Musa Adamu and Salihu Victor of AVSEC. Officials claim the officers admitted to receiving financial inducements in exchange for facilitating access to secured areas.
In a statement issued after the investigation, security authorities confirmed that the five officers have been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution.
The statement also noted that additional personnel from the Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service, who allegedly misused their official positions to enable unauthorized entry but did not receive bribes, will face internal disciplinary measures.
The development underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies to enforce accountability and uphold professional standards within Nigeria’s aviation and border control systems.
