Edo PDP Guber Candidate, Ighodalo Sues Oshiomhole for N20 Billion Over Defamation Claims; Give Reasons
Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party’s gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming Edo State election, has launched a N20 billion defamation lawsuit against Senator Adams Oshiomhole. This legal action follows Oshiomhole’s allegations regarding the Planwell scheme, which Ighodalo claims are entirely false and defamatory.
Ighodalo’s legal team, led by Ayo Asala (SAN) & Associates, demands an immediate retraction and apology from Oshiomhole. They insist that the apology should be broadcast on at least two national television networks and published in three major newspapers. The letter, dated September 16, 2024, accuses Oshiomhole of making baseless claims about Ighodalo’s involvement in a fraudulent scheme, which Ighodalo argues is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation for political gain.
The letter asserts that Oshiomhole’s statements, made during a campaign rally and widely circulated on social media, are unfounded and part of a pattern of defamatory remarks against Ighodalo. It emphasizes that these accusations are false and purely fabricated to undermine Ighodalo’s credibility as he campaigns for the gubernatorial position.
Ighodalo’s lawyers also highlighted the significant reputational damage caused by these false statements and affirmed their client’s intention to seek legal redress. The lawsuit demands N20 billion in damages for the harm caused by Oshiomhole’s allegedly malicious remarks, with legal proceedings set to commence without further notice if the demands are not met.
