EFCC Declares Yahaya Bello a Fugitive, Issues Arrest Order on Sight
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has labeled former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello a fugitive, issuing an arrest order due to charges including money laundering, breach of trust, and the misappropriation of N80.2 billion during his tenure.
This announcement was made on Thursday during an interview on News Central TV.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale revealed that after several failed attempts to apprehend Bello, he has been declared wanted, with his current whereabouts unknown.
According to The Whistler, the Court of Appeal in Abuja mandated Bello to appear for arraignment on August 20, 2024, in response to the corruption charges filed by the EFCC.
Oyewale commented on the ruling, stating, “The Court of Appeal’s decision reinforces the commission’s stance and underscores our commitment to this case.”
“We are working with both local and international law enforcement to secure Bello’s arrest. As of now, Yahaya Bello is evading capture and will be arrested upon any sighting,” Oyewale added.
He also noted that delays in some EFCC cases are due to procedural requirements and the commission’s rigorous adherence to legal protocols.
