Ekiti State Chief Judge, Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, Dies at 64

Justice John Oyewole Adeyeye, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, has passed away at the age of 64. He died on Monday, November 4, 2024, at a healthcare facility in Ekiti after a brief illness.

 

While the official cause of death has not yet been confirmed, sources revealed that the judge succumbed to his condition shortly after being admitted to the hospital.

 

Justice Adeyeye was appointed Chief Judge of Ekiti State on October 11, 2021, by former Governor Kayode Fayemi.

 

Born in 1960 in Araromi Ugbesi, Ekiti East Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Adeyeye was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986. He began his legal career as a state counsel in the old Ondo State Civil Service before joining the Ekiti State Judiciary Service Commission following the state’s creation in 1996.

 

In 2002, he was appointed as a judge of the Ekiti State High Court and later served in various roles, including as a member of election petition tribunals. His contributions to the legal system were widely acknowledged throughout his career.
