Family Appeals for Help in Search for Missing Mentally-Challenged Father in Lagos

The family of Elijah Bassey is urgently seeking assistance from the public to find their father, who has gone missing in the Ajuwon community of Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State.

According to FIRST CLASS GISTS, Bassey disappeared in August 2024 while staying with a relative after his elder brother, identified only as Ekpo, left to get him food.

Samuel, Bassey’s son, shared that they have thoroughly searched the community and reported the situation to the Zone 2 Police Command.

“My dad has mental health issues and was taken from Ajuwon to our village in Akwa Ibom for care. After a few weeks, a family member brought him back. Our uncle, who was watching over him, went out to buy food, but when he returned, my father was gone. We’ve reported this to the police,” Samuel said.

Bassey’s daughter, Rebecca, echoed her brother’s plea during a phone interview, recounting a similar experience. “My father was unwell, and we decided to take him to our village for better care. A relative promised to look after him. After a few days, he was brought back to Lagos. I live in Ilorin, but when I heard he was back in Lagos, I traveled there, only to find out he had gone missing just days later. I am asking for help from anyone who might know where he is,” she stated.

Inspector Olanrewaju Isaac from the Zone 2 Police Command confirmed that he is assisting the family in their search. He noted, “The family just wants to ensure his well-being and find out where he is. No one is being blamed in this situation. The case was reported at Ajuwon Police Station before being escalated to Zone 2 for further investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest police station.”
