Federal Government Seeks Permanent Secretaries from Eight States; See Names of States

The Federal Government, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), has initiated the recruitment process for new Permanent Secretaries to fill positions in eight states.

 

In a memo dated October 7, 2024, and signed by the Head of Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, it was noted that individuals currently undergoing disciplinary actions are ineligible to apply for these roles. The recruitment process has received approval from President Bola Tinubu.

 

The memo, directed to all ministers, agency directors, and senior officials, specifies that applicants must come from the states of Abia, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Rivers to adhere to the Federal Character principle.

 

“Following the President’s approval, the OHCSF is beginning the process of appointing Permanent Secretaries for current and upcoming vacancies in the listed states, where positions will become vacant due to retirements expected by December 24, 2024,” the memo stated.

 

Directors within the federal civil service who meet the eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply. The criteria for applicants include:

 

Must be a substantive Director on Salary Grade Level 17 or higher as of January 1, 2022.

 

Must have updated records on the IPPIS verification portal.

 

Must be indigenous to one of the specified states.

 

Must have at least one year of service remaining as of November 18, 2024, when the appointment process is set to conclude.

 

 

The memo also reiterated that those undergoing disciplinary actions are not allowed to participate in this recruitment. It requires that applicants clearly state in their application letters that they are not subject to any disci

plinary proceedings.
