FG Allocates ₦940 Billion to TETFund in 2025 Budget to Boost Education

The Federal Government has set aside ₦940.5 billion for the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in the 2025 fiscal year, aimed at advancing the development of manpower and infrastructure in Nigeria’s education sector.

President Bola Tinubu announced this allocation during the 42nd Founders’ Day and 33rd Convocation of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, held on Saturday. Represented by Rakiya Iliyasu, Director of Tertiary Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Tinubu highlighted that the funding underscores his administration’s commitment to enhancing educational resources and quality.

The president also noted that over N104 billion had been distributed to more than 600,000 students across Nigerian tertiary institutions through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Emphasizing his administration’s focus on building a knowledge-based society, Tinubu reiterated the government’s determination to prioritize education through policy support and financial investment. He urged universities to foster deeper collaboration with industries, ensuring that academic research aligns with the nation’s needs and contributes to sustainable development.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Faruk Adamu-Kuta, celebrated the milestone of the 42nd Founders’ Day and 33rd Convocation, describing it as a significant event in the university’s history. He highlighted the institution’s rise to prominence in technological education, now ranking 8th among the best universities in Nigeria and 2nd among specialized universities.

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger expressed gratitude for receiving an honorary Doctorate Degree in Agriculture from the university, describing it as an encouragement to further contribute to the agricultural sector. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing access to education for all residents of the state and called on the university to continue leading the way in education and research innovation.

Governor Bago also contributed ₦100 million to the university’s endowment fund, while Senator Muhammad Sani-Musa donated ₦200 million.

The convocation ceremony saw the graduation of 5,816 students for the 2023/2024 academic session, including 4,955 undergraduates, 632 master’s degree holders, 105 postgraduate diplomas, and 124 PhD graduates.
