Flood Hits Shehu of Borno’s Palace, Displaces Residents

In the early hours of Tuesday, severe flooding engulfed the Palace of Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Elkenemi, as well as several areas in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
Sources from FIRST CLASS GISTS report that the Shehu has been forced to relocate to the Government House for safety.
A resident from Kofar Shehu expressed disbelief, stating, “This is unprecedented! Even the Shehu has had to leave his palace for the Government House.”
Areas such as Lagos Street, Modugari, Post Office, and Gwange have been particularly hard-hit, with residents scrambling to salvage their belongings and seek safety.
Usman Babagana, one of the affected residents, mentioned that while there were warnings about potential flooding, the community did not fully prepare due to a lack of alternative shelter. “We were warned about the flood, but we didn’t take it seriously because we had no place to go,” he said.
Buba Jibril, who was caught in the flood near the Post Office, described the situation as the worst he has seen in Maiduguri. “This is the most severe flood I’ve experienced here. I hope it doesn’t lead to further hardship,” he remarked.
