Former CBN Employees Seek Legal Action Over Job Termination

Several recently dismissed employees of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are pursuing legal action to contest their job terminations and secure their due entitlements.
Mr. Ola Olanipekun (SAN), representing some of the affected individuals, filed the cases on Thursday before the National Industrial Court in Abuja. The originating summons, shared with FIRST CLASS GISTS Weekend, outlines the claimants’ argument for a fair hearing.
Olanipekun argued that the CBN’s actions have caused significant harm, and he is requesting the court to mandate the bank to pay all outstanding salaries, allowances, and other entitlements. One client, who had nine years of service remaining and would have earned over N1.6 million monthly, is seeking compensation for these future earnings until the date of judgment.
The legal team is also requesting that the court order the payment of N178.3 million or other appropriate amounts for the salaries and allowances the claimant would have earned from the termination date until their retirement date on August 4, 2033. Additionally, they are seeking N100 million in general damages.
The originating summons, dated August 22, 2024, is supported by a 27-paragraph affidavit submitted by the claimant.
