Former Kaduna Gov, El-Rufai Responds to Corruption Allegations by Kaduna Lawmakers

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has refuted allegations of corruption made by the state’s lawmakers, calling their investigation biased and unfounded.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai criticized the ad-hoc committee responsible for investigating his administration, accusing them of conducting a superficial inquiry to support predetermined conclusions.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the Kaduna State House of Assembly recently endorsed a report from the ad-hoc committee, which implicated El-Rufai and recommended his prosecution. The report accuses El-Rufai of mismanaging approximately N423 billion during his tenure.

El-Rufai, through Adekeye, denied these accusations, emphasizing that they have yet to receive the committee’s report and will respond in detail once it is available. He asserted the integrity of his administration and dismissed the allegations as scandalous.

El-Rufai expressed pride in his governance record and the legacy he left in Kaduna State, asserting that his history of high performance in both public and private sectors cannot be tarnished by what he described as malicious legislative actions aimed at defaming his administration.

Officials from El-Rufai’s administration participated in the committee’s inquiry with confidence in their service’s quality and integrity, despite recognizing the process as unfair and biased. El-Rufai condemned the legislature’s actions as a significant deviation from decency and fairness, rejecting the claims associated with the committee’s report.

Reassuring the public, El-Rufai affirmed his dedication to serving Kaduna State with integrity and adherence to the law throughout his tenure. He urged the public to disregard the biased probe.
