Gbenga Daniel Receives Demolition Notices from Ogun State Government
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Political Harassment Alleged as Ogun State Governor Abiodun Issues Demolition and Eviction Orders Against Daniel’s Properties
We wish to alert the public and security agencies to a troubling development in Ogun State. Late yesterday afternoon, around 4pm on August 8, individuals claiming to represent the Ogun State government under Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun delivered Notices of Contravention, Quit Orders, and threats of demolition to several properties owned by former Ogun State Governor Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, FNSE FAEng. These include his private home at Asoludero Court, Sagamu, the Conference Hotels Limited in Sagamu, and the hotel annex.
We strongly denounce this act, which appears to be political persecution orchestrated by Governor Abiodun’s administration. The notices dated August 8, 2025, reflect a deliberate abuse of power, using a newly passed law retroactively to target a political rival.
The allegations center on supposed unauthorized construction, which is baseless. The properties have existed for many years — Asoludero Court since 2004, Conference Hotel since 2013, and the annex since 2015. Now, the administration is invoking the Ogun State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law No. 61 of 2022, attempting to demolish structures lawfully built long before this law came into effect.
This move blatantly disregards due process and legal protocols. The notices were issued simultaneously — a “Notice of Contravention” alongside a “Notice to Quit” — coupled with an immediate demolition threat, which is not how the law mandates enforcement. Such haste and threat reveal a strategy of intimidation rather than a fair legal process.
This incident is part of a disturbing pattern. It follows the unlawful midnight demolition of DATKEM Plaza, Ijebu Ode — a property owned by Otunba Daniel’s wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel — in September 2023. This demolition was reportedly carried out by hired thugs and not official government agents, under questionable pretenses. The courts have already ruled against the state in several related cases, including at the Ogun State High Court and the Court of Appeal in Ibadan, highlighting the government’s lack of legal standing.
Governor Abiodun’s actions reflect dangerous political vendettas that ignore the law and basic decency. We urge citizens, human rights advocates, and legal institutions to join us in condemning this blatant abuse of authority. We will continue to fight this injustice through all available legal avenues and hold Governor Abiodun accountable.
