Gov Uzodimma: What Nigerians Want from Protests is Unclear
Governor Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, has expressed uncertainty regarding the motivations behind the forthcoming nationwide protests. He has appealed to Nigerians to cancel the planned protests against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, scheduled for August 1 to August 10.
Following a closed-door meeting with governors in Abuja on Wednesday, Uzodimma stated that it is unwise for any group to demonstrate at this time. He emphasized the need to address the challenges of insecurity, national minimum wage, food security, and the ongoing economic recession before engaging in protests.
“We don’t understand what the protesters are demanding,” Uzodimma said. “Given the current situation in the country, it is not wise for any group to demonstrate. We need to manage the challenges of insecurity, national minimum wage, food security, and the economic recession. We also advise our young people to avoid being instigated into causing chaos.”
He highlighted the hardships Nigerians have already endured due to the global economic recession, insecurity, political tensions fueled by opposition parties, and social media attacks on government policies. “For the sake of the country and as a show of patriotism, citizens must take ownership of this country. We have no other country to call our own outside Nigeria,” Uzodimma added.
Governor Uzodimma urged Nigerians to be patient with the government, assuring that efforts are underway to alleviate the economic hardships in the country.
