Governor Alia’s Convoy Involved in Fatal Accident, See the Numbers that Dead, Injured

A vehicle in the convoy of Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, was involved in a tragic accident on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and leaving another person injured.
The accident occurred in Ihugh, a community within Vandeikya Local Government Area, where the governor was visiting his hometown for the Christmas holiday. The incident took place on a dusty, untarred road, which led to poor visibility for the driver of the pilot vehicle.
Reports indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the thick dust, causing it to veer off course and collide with a motorcycle. The crash resulted in one fatality, while others were injured.
The identities of the victims have not been officially released.
Solomon Iorpev, the governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, confirmed the incident but clarified that it happened after the governor had already arrived at the church. He further explained that while the vehicle was part of the governor’s convoy, it was not part of the motorcade at the time of the accident.
“The vehicle was on a separate mission when the accident occurred. Dust from the untarred road, combined with an oncoming vehicle, contributed to the collision with the motorcycle,” Iorpev said.
He expressed sorrow over the tragic event but refrained from commenting on the exact number of casualties.
