Gunmen Raid Anambra Community, Attack Police Checkpoint, Kill Officer

Gunmen launched an attack on a police checkpoint near Nnobi Police Station on Nnobi/Nkpor Road in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, resulting in the death of a police officer.
Sources indicate that the officer who was killed on Friday was the driver of one of the police vehicles stationed at the checkpoint.
According to FIRST CLASS GISTS, the attackers arrived in the community on Friday and took refuge in a house adjacent to the checkpoint. They breached a wall to gain entry, forced residents to open their gate for their vehicles, and confiscated their phones. The gunmen then locked the residents in a room, threatening to shoot them if they alerted authorities.
This incident follows a similar attack less than three weeks prior, where gunmen targeted a checkpoint on Omata-Nnobi Road in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area, killing another officer with the use of an explosive device.
SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the attack and noted that an operation is underway in the area under the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam.
Ikenga stated, “It is confirmed that one policeman was killed. An operation is currently ongoing in the area as directed by the Commissioner of Police. This attack underscores the extreme risks faced by security officers in their line of duty. We will provide further details as the situation develops.”
