How Bank Employee Steals ₦18 Million, While ATM Fraudster is Caught Red-Handed in Katsina
The Katsina State Police Command paraded Adewumi Gabriel, the Head of ATM Operations at a Daura branch of a prominent bank, for his involvement in stealing ₦18 million from a customer’s account. He admitted to colluding with a colleague, David Mesioye, who remains at large, using their knowledge of the bank’s systems to execute the theft, which was uncovered during an audit.
According to police spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu, Adewumi had ₦10.18 million in various bank accounts, along with ₦366,900 in cash and other valuables, seized during his arrest.
In a separate case, 37-year-old Bishir Abdullahi from Sokoto State was apprehended at an ATM of an old-generation bank in Katsina, found with 14 stolen ATM cards. Abdullahi, known for swapping cards at ATM machines, was caught by a police officer stationed at the bank’s Tudun Katsira branch after suspicious activity was noticed around the machine.
Further investigation revealed that Abdullahi had been using the stolen cards to withdraw funds from unsuspecting victims’ accounts.
