Justice Haruna Mshelia of the Borno State High Court was abducted on Monday in Jiba town along the Biu-Maiduguri road in Borno State.
Justice Mshelia, his wife, driver, and orderly were traveling together when they were intercepted by insurgents and taken hostage. The captors took them into the Sambisa Forest.
Borno State Police Command spokesman, Nahum Daso, confirmed the abduction to The FIRST CLASS GISTS on Monday night. He stated, “We received a report today from one Sani Audu, through the Divisional Officer of Biu, that on the 24th of June, 2024, at about 9 am, the Honourable Justice, his wife, orderly, and driver were kidnapped along Biu-Maiduguri Road, specifically at Jiba town.”
Daso added that investigations have begun to track the terrorists and secure the release of the judge and other hostages. “There has not been any contact with the terrorists, but the police have put all security measures in place to see that the victims are rescued. The police command, through the Borno State Police Commissioner, has delegated a special investigation team which comprises the State Intelligence Department and other tactical squads, in collaboration with other security forces and the DSS, to gather forensic evidence and track and retrieve the victims,” Daso said.
