How Father and Son was Killed in Building Collapse in Jigawa

The Buji Local Government Council of Jigawa State has reported the deaths of a 30-year-old man and his two-year-old son following a building collapse in Madabe village. The council’s Information Officer, Ali Safiyanu, confirmed the incident on Monday, noting that the boy’s 25-year-old mother survived the collapse and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Safiyanu explained that the building collapse occurred on Sunday during a severe rainstorm. The state spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Badaruddeen Tijjani, also verified the incident but did not provide the names of the deceased or the survivor. An investigation into the collapse is underway.

Additionally, recent flooding between Thursday and Sunday has caused significant damage in the region, displacing around 400 households and destroying approximately 1,000 farms. The State Emergency Management Agency has begun distributing relief supplies to those affected, who are currently sheltered in a local school.
