How Gunmen Attack Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat, Destroy Four Patrol Vehicles
In the early hours of Saturday, the Ogbaru Local Government Secretariat in Anambra State was attacked by gunmen who set ablaze four patrol vehicles on the premises.
Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived in large numbers, indiscriminately firing shots into the air, causing panic among local residents. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported from the incident.
The attack has heightened security concerns in Ogbaru. Just days earlier, two soldiers escorting oil workers were ambushed and killed in the same community.
Anambra State Police Commissioner Nnaghe Obono Itam condemned the attack, describing it as an act of cowardice. He detailed that the assailants, arriving on motorcycles and a vehicle, encountered resistance from vigilante operatives until a police response team arrived. The gunmen fled under the superior firepower of the security forces, but not before four patrol vehicles were set on fire and heavily damaged.
In response to the attack, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of Operations, led a joint security team—including the Army and Navy—to conduct an on-the-spot assessment. The Commissioner praised the bravery of the security operatives and assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the attackers. He also promised continued and enhanced cooperation among security agencies to combat criminal activities in the state.
Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
