How Security Guard Killed Man Over Phone Theft in Ogun
A 26-year-old security guard, Muhammed Abubakar, employed by a local businessman in the Ajaka area of Sagamu, Ogun State, has allegedly killed an unidentified man over accusations of attempted phone theft.
According to FIRST CLASS GISTS, the incident occurred when Abubakar struck the victim on the head with a large plank. An anonymous source revealed that a loud, alarming noise was heard from Abubakar’s post, prompting residents to report the matter to the Sagamu Police Division. The division responded swiftly, dispatching Inspector Ojo Alasofe to investigate the scene alongside the concerned residents.
“We suspected something was wrong when we heard the noise,” said the source. “A resident went to report the incident to the police, and they returned with an officer. At the scene, they found the victim in a pool of blood, struggling for breath. Abubakar was standing next to him. When questioned, Abubakar claimed the victim had snatched his phone, leading to a chase. Another security guard helped apprehend the victim, who was then dragged back to Abubakar’s post. During a scuffle, Abubakar struck the victim on the head with a stick, causing a severe injury that drew the attention of passersby.”
Confirming the incident, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola stated that Abubakar fled the scene after suspecting the victim had died. The victim was rushed to Live Well Hospital in Ajaka, Sagamu, but was declared dead by the attending doctor around 9 p.m. on Monday. His body has been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu for identification.
“Our officers are diligently working to apprehend Abubakar, who is currently at large,” Odutola added.
