How Seven Family Members Die After Eating Food in Sokoto
A tragic incident in Runjin Barmo village, Kajiji District, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State has resulted in the death of a family of seven. The victims reportedly passed away shortly after eating a cassava meal believed to have been contaminated.
Asabe Balarabe, the state Commissioner for Health, led a delegation to the village to offer condolences. The village head, Malam Muhammadu Modi Magajin Runjin Barmo, informed Balarabe that the family consumed the contaminated cassava for dinner. The deceased included Malam Abubakar, his wife A’ishatu Abubakar, and their five children.
Magajin Runjin Barmo noted that while the same cassava had been consumed by four other households in the village without incident, it had caused severe illness in this family.
On behalf of the community, Magajin Runjin Barmo expressed gratitude to Governor Dr. Ahmed Aliyu for his concern, conveyed through the Commissioner.
Balarabe explained that the visit aimed to investigate the cause of the tragedy and report back to the state government for further action. The health ministry plans to collect samples from a teenager who survived after eating the contaminated cassava.
Balarabe offered condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the deceased, urging residents to report any unusual illnesses promptly to facilitate timely intervention.
Sani Bello Tambuwal, the Director of Health for Shagari Local Government Area, commended the Commissioner for her support and expressed hope that such efforts would continue.
