How Trucks Cause Deadly Crashes, Killing Four and Injuring Seven in Lagos, Ogun
Four people died and seven others were injured in several crashes across Lagos and Ogun states on Monday, involving trucks and other vehicles.
According to officials from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accidents occurred in different locations, with varying levels of severity.
In Lagos, at least three people lost their lives in a tragic incident in Epe. A Dangote truck, reportedly suffering from brake failure, crashed into a tricycle and a parked car at Ayeyoro, Ita-Opo. The collision resulted in the deaths of the tricycle driver and two students. Emergency responders from LASTMA and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) quickly arrived at the scene to secure the area and clear the wreckage, while the bodies of the victims were taken to Epe General Hospital.
In addition, six people were injured in two separate crashes along the Ijaiye-Abule-Egba road and Tsunami Bridge in Ketu. One of these involved an LT Bus and a Toyota Hiace, both of which were reportedly victims of brake failure. LASTMA teams responded swiftly, rescuing the injured passengers and transferring them to a nearby hospital for treatment. Another crash at Tsunami Bridge involved two commercial buses and a DAF truck, leading to the injury of three people, who were also rushed to medical facilities.
Meanwhile, in Ogun State, a separate accident occurred on the Agbara-Lusada Expressway, when a motorcycle collided with a moving truck. The crash killed a female passenger and injured one other person. According to TRACE Commandant Seni Ogunyemi, the accident was caused by reckless speeding and overtaking by the motorcyclist. The injured individual was taken to the hospital, while the deceased’s body was retrieved by her family.
LASTMA officials emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance, especially ensuring that braking systems are properly checked, to avoid such tragic incidents.
