IPAC to Implement Forensic Audit of Aspirants’ Certificates Ahead of Primaries
The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has announced a new initiative to screen the certificates of aspirants before they participate in elections. This move aims to address issues related to forged and fake certificates, which have led to litigation and undermined party success.
Speaking at a meeting with registered parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, IPAC Chairman Yusuf Danielle highlighted the growing concern over fraudulent credentials among politicians. Danielle revealed that IPAC has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators of Nigeria (CIFCFIN) to verify and authenticate the certificates of candidates.
This measure is intended to restore credibility to the electoral process and combat the proliferation of fake documents that tarnish democratic integrity. Danielle emphasized the need to renew public trust in the political system, starting with a reliable and accurate voter register.
“Cleaning up the register is crucial for maintaining integrity and building confidence in our democracy,” Danielle stated. He also urged INEC to ensure credible elections in the upcoming polls in Edo and Ondo states.
Danielle called on political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns and avoid the politics of bitterness and violence that have marred past elections. He stressed the importance of patriotic engagement and the collective effort required to strengthen and advance Nigeria’s democracy.
