Kamala Harris Criticises Trump’s Venezuela Move, Calls It Risky and Unlawful

Vice President Kamala Harris has condemned former President Donald Trump’s actions in Venezuela, warning that the operation does not make the United States safer, stronger, or more affordable for its citizens.

Harris acknowledged that Nicolás Maduro is an authoritarian leader with no democratic legitimacy, but stressed that this reality does not justify what she described as a reckless and illegal intervention. According to her, history has shown that military ventures framed as displays of strength often descend into instability, leaving American families to bear the cost.
She said Americans are weary of foreign interventions driven by false narratives and do not support another conflict marketed under the banners of democracy or security.
Harris argued that the situation is less about combating drug trafficking or defending democratic values and more about oil interests and what she described as Trump’s ambition to assert dominance in the region. She questioned the administration’s credibility, pointing to decisions such as granting clemency to a convicted drug trafficker while sidelining Venezuela’s recognised opposition and engaging with figures linked to the Maduro regime.
According to Harris, the operation puts U.S. troops in danger, drains public resources, and destabilises an already fragile region, all without clear legal backing, a defined exit strategy, or tangible benefits for Americans at home.
She concluded by calling for leadership that focuses on reducing the cost of living, upholding the rule of law, strengthening international partnerships, and placing the interests of the American people above political theatrics.
