Kanu’s Family Claims Court Refused Order to Produce Him
The family of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has raised fresh concerns over what they describe as the court’s refusal to comply with an order directing authorities to produce him in court. The development has stirred renewed debates around the prolonged detention of the separatist leader and the transparency of the ongoing legal process.
In a statement on Wednesday, the family expressed shock and disappointment, alleging that despite a clear directive expected to ensure Kanu’s appearance, the court session ended without his production. According to them, the situation not only undermines judicial integrity but also deepens fears regarding his welfare and access to fair hearing.
Kanu’s brother, who spoke on behalf of the family, noted that they had anticipated a decisive step toward resolving the legal stalemate. Instead, they claim the absence of compliance raises questions about whether the authorities are acting in good faith. He described the court’s failure to enforce its own order as “a troubling signal that justice may be drifting further out of reach.”
Human rights advocates have also weighed in, insisting that court orders must not be treated as optional. They argue that the inability to present Kanu as instructed sends a dangerous message that weakens public confidence in the justice system. Some groups have called for immediate clarification from the judiciary and security agencies to restore trust in the process.
The family reiterated their appeal to the federal government to respect the rule of law and ensure that Kanu’s constitutional rights are not subjected to selective interpretation. They stressed that the ongoing tensions in the South-East would only ease when justice is seen to be transparent, timely, and uncompromised.
As the legal battle continues, the latest development has once again placed the spotlight on the intersection between national security, public trust, and judicial responsibility. Whether the authorities will respond to the family’s allegations remains to be seen, but the pressure for accountability continu
es to mount.
