Kekemeke Re-Elected as South-West APC Vice Chairman, Eyes 2027 Victory for Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West zone has reaffirmed Isaacs Kekemeke as its National Vice Chairman during a zonal congress held on Wednesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos. The election, conducted by consensus and confirmed through voice vote, also saw other zonal executives elected to key positions.
A total of 3,188 delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Osun states attended the congress, reflecting broad participation from the region. Officials elected include Femi Aluko as Secretary, Lateef Ibirogba as Organising Secretary, Ayo Afolabi as Publicity Secretary, Adeduyi Daramola as Youth Leader, Ismail Majaro as Legal Adviser, and Dayo Ishola representing persons with disabilities.
According to Jide Jimoh, Chairman of the Zonal Congress Committee, the consensus approach adhered strictly to the provisions of the 2026 Electoral Act. The method was described by Punch as promoting internal cohesion and preventing intra-party conflicts ahead of national conventions.
Several top political figures were present, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. Former Ogun Governor Olusegun Osoba, Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, and the APC gubernatorial candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, were also in attendance.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the congress as “peaceful, free, and fair,” highlighting the zone’s unified stance in support of President Bola Tinubu. He added that the region’s cohesion would be instrumental in ensuring strong electoral outcomes for the party in the 2027 general election, a sentiment reported by The Nation.
Kekemeke, speaking after his re-election, expressed confidence that the APC’s strengthened structures across the South-West would translate into substantial voter support for the party. “Our unity is our strength,” he said. “We are determined to deliver results for President Tinubu and the APC in 2027.”
Dayo Israel, representing the APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, urged the new leadership to maintain focus on grassroots mobilisation, emphasising that collective effort and strategic planning would be crucial to achieving a landslide victory in the upcoming elections. Leadership observers, including ThisDay, noted that the congress’s smooth conduct signaled growing internal discipline within the party, which could influence its performance nationally.
The South-West zonal congress concluded with assurances that the APC would continue to consolidate its political base, strengthen party structures, and mobilise voters effectively across the region in preparation for the next general election cycle.
