Kidnappers Kill Daughter, Release Mother After ₦10 Million Ransom in Ekiti

Kidnappers

On September 5, 2024, it was reported that one of the individuals abducted on Saturday along the Emure-Eporo Road in Emure, Ekiti State, was murdered. The victim, identified as Shile Ogunmolasuyi, a recent secondary school graduate, was taken alongside her mother, Mrs. Yemi Ogunmolasuyi.

The kidnappers eventually released Mrs. Yemi and another captive, Caroline Taiwo, whose husband, Oluwole Taiwo, was killed during the kidnapping last Wednesday.

Family sources revealed that the victims were freed after a ransom of ₦10 million was paid. The ransom was delivered to a location on the Owo-Ikare-Benin Road in Owo, Ondo State, although the kidnappers had initially demanded ₦30 million.

A community leader in Emure reported that Shile was killed after enduring severe abuse, including repeated assaults that left her incapacitated. The captives were forced to walk for 24 hours without food or water, which led to Shile’s death due to her weakened state.

The kidnapping occurred around 5:30 PM on Saturday near Oyimo River. During the incident, Taiwo Oluwole, who was driving the car carrying the victims to Akure, was shot and killed.

Efforts are ongoing to locate Shile’s body. Niyi Awopetu, Secretary of the Emure Progressives Association, confirmed that the victims were released at midnight, but Shile had already been killed. He stated that the kidnappers had collected ₦10 million in ransom.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, has not yet responded to inquiries about the case.

This incident follows other kidnappings in the area, including one on January 29 involving pupils and teachers from Apostolic Faith Children School, and another on July 13 involving Mrs. Atinuke, wife of retiree Albert Adanikin.
