Kwankwaso Slams Atiku Over 2027 Election Allegations: “Stop Lying at 80”

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP), has vehemently denied claims of a supposed agreement between opposition leaders for the 2027 elections. In a sharp rebuke, he accused the camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of spreading false information about a deal involving him and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, where they were allegedly set to rotate the presidency starting in 2027.

In an interview with Radio France International’s Hausa Service, Kwankwaso expressed his frustration, particularly with the involvement of elderly figures in perpetuating what he called lies. He stated that claims of a meeting with over 40 clerics discussing such an agreement were fabricated and that he had no part in any such arrangement.

“I was shocked and angered by the news that the PDP had been meeting with religious leaders, claiming an agreement where Atiku would serve one term, I’d serve another, and Peter Obi would hold power for two terms. This is absolutely false. I was not involved in any such agreement,” Kwankwaso said.

He further criticized those in their 70s and 80s who, according to him, were spreading falsehoods to political and religious leaders. “Elderly people should not be lying at such an age. It’s unfortunate, and this is part of the problem Nigeria is facing,” he added.

Kwankwaso expressed disbelief that such a significant claim could be made without his knowledge, emphasizing that if a government were to be built on lies, it would be structurally weak. He accused the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of desperately trying to form a coalition with other political entities, calling it a “dead party.”

The NNPP leader concluded by stating that the spread of such falsehoods only erodes trust and undermines the credibility of those involved in the discussions.
