Kwankwaso’s Son Dumps NNPP, Moves Toward ADC in Fresh Political Realignment

Kwankwaso’s Son Dumps NNPP, Moves Toward ADC in Fresh Political Realignment

A new dimension has emerged in Nigeria’s shifting political landscape as Mustapha Kwankwaso, son of former presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has formally exited the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), signalling a move toward the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Mustapha, who previously served as Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, made his decision public via a statement shared on his verified Facebook page on Monday. His resignation comes barely 24 hours after his father also announced his departure from the NNPP, a development widely reported by PUNCH Online and other Nigerian news platforms.

Describing his exit as intentional, Mustapha stressed that the decision followed careful reflection rather than impulse. He noted that his next political step is already in motion, confirming plans to align with the ADC.

“I have officially resigned my membership from the NNPP,” he stated, adding that the move marks the beginning of a new phase in his political journey.

The former commissioner, who is also associated with the influential Kwankwasiyya political movement, framed his decision within a broader vision for governance and national development. According to him, the ADC represents a platform that aligns with his aspirations for reform and progress.

Political observers say the near-simultaneous exits of both father and son underscore a coordinated realignment that could reshape alliances ahead of the 2027 elections. As noted in discussions across platforms like Channels Television and political commentary on X (formerly Twitter), the ADC has increasingly become a rallying point for opposition figures exploring new coalitions.

Mustapha emphasised that his interest in the ADC is rooted in its perceived capacity to drive meaningful change, particularly in Kano State and across the country. He highlighted priorities such as economic growth, improved governance, and better living standards for citizens.

His defection adds momentum to ongoing coalition talks among opposition figures, with analysts suggesting that the ADC may be positioning itself as a viable alternative platform in the evolving political equation.

With key figures beginning to reposition, attention is now turning to how these moves will influence alliances, voter sentiment, and the broader contest ahead of the next general election cycle.
