Labour Party Faces Setback as More Lawmakers Join APC

The Labour Party (LP) in Cross River State has encountered another significant setback with the defection of Brian Odey, the lawmaker for Yala State Constituency 1, amidst ongoing leadership disputes within the party.

Over the weekend, the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially welcomed Odey and other defectors at a notable event in Yala LGA. Odey’s transition took place in Yahe Ward, further strengthening the APC’s ranks.

In addition to Odey, Martins Achadu, representing Yala 2 State Constituency, also defected to the APC, making his move official in Ijiraga Ward. Both lawmakers are now poised to support the APC’s efforts in the upcoming local council elections scheduled for October 25, 2024.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, praised the defections, viewing them as a strategic gain for the APC. He highlighted the experience and dedication of the new members, noting that their commitment to their constituencies will significantly enhance the party’s success.

“Brian’s joining us is a personal joy and a win for the APC. His commitment to his constituents will undoubtedly bolster our party’s growth,” the Speaker commented.
