List of Oil-Producing States in 2024 and Their 13% Derivation Allocations

As of 2024, Akwa Ibom State ranks as the second-largest oil-producing state in Nigeria. Despite receiving substantial federal allocations, the state has seen little improvement in living conditions for its residents. Many citizens continue to face severe hardship, with high levels of unemployment and inadequate opportunities, even for those with advanced degrees.
Critics argue that previous leaders, including former Governor Godswill Akpabio and his successor Udom Emmanuel, as well as the current Governor Umoh Eno, have failed to address these issues effectively, alleging that corruption and mismanagement have been prevalent.
The dire situation has led many residents to consider leaving the state in search of better prospects elsewhere, often resulting in low-paying jobs. The frustration and disillusionment with the political leadership are palpable, as many feel that their leaders have not fulfilled their promises or improved the quality of life for ordinary people.
