Troops of the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lokoja, on Saturday, 3 January 2026, recorded another operational success following coordinated patrols and ambushes conducted in Kabba Bunu and Yagba West Local Government Areas of Kogi State.

A statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the troops, acting on credible intelligence about bandits moving from Adankolo towards Agbadu Bunu in Kabba Bunu LGA, swiftly deployed and laid an ambush at a known crossing point. The bandits ran into the ambush, where they were engaged. During the encounter, troops neutralized two bandits and recovered an AK-47 rifle.
Further intelligence revealed bandit movements around Saminaka village in Yagba West LGA. Troops, working with local vigilantes, patrolled the village and adjoining forested areas. On arrival, the village was deserted, prompting troops to explore surrounding forests and routes leading towards Saminaka Sabo Rijiya road, where they encountered several bandits and engaged them.
During the operation, troops arrested a suspected bandit logistics supplier identified as Sunday Adedotun from Odo Eri village in Yagba West LGA. The suspect was apprehended on a farmland within Saminaka village, claiming he was helping farmers transport their produce. Items recovered include cartons of energy and soft drinks, bottled water, and harvested farm produce. The suspect is currently in custody undergoing investigation.
The Commander of 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops for their professionalism, courage, and timely response to credible intelligence. He assured the public that troops will continue to conduct aggressive patrols, ambushes, and intelligence-driven operations to deny criminal elements freedom of action in the area.
