Man Kills Elder Brother in Kebbi; Two Arrested for Separate Murders

The Kebbi State Police Command has detained two individuals in connection with separate murder cases in the Shanga and Zuru Local Government Areas.

These tragic incidents, described as “regrettable” by Commissioner of Police Bello Sani, have sparked calls for the community to seek peaceful solutions to conflicts instead of resorting to violence.

In a statement released to the press on Friday, the Command’s spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, provided details of the cases. According to the statement, “On December 31, 2024, at about 8:00 PM, police arrested Yunusa Haruna, 25, from Bakin Turu village in Shanga LGA, for allegedly stabbing his older brother, Isiyaku Haruna, to death. Reports indicate that the suspect attacked his brother with a sharp knife during an argument, which led to the victim’s death. The arrest was made after a swift response by officers at the Shanga Divisional Police Headquarters.”

In a separate incident on January 8, 2025, at approximately 4:30 PM, Abubakar Umar, 25, from Jarkasa in Zuru LGA, reportedly killed Mohammed Bala by stabbing him in the head during a dispute. Umar is also accused of injuring Mohammed’s younger brother, Sama’ila Bala, in the altercation. The Zuru Divisional Police Headquarters responded promptly, apprehending the suspect soon after the incident.

Expressing concern over these acts of violence, Commissioner Sani condemned the events and urged Kebbi State residents to report disputes to the proper authorities rather than taking matters into their own hands.

Sani has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances of both cases. Once investigations are completed, the suspects will be brought before the court.

The Kebbi State Police Command reiterated its dedication to maintaining law and order and encouraged the public to provide valuable information to support ongoing security efforts.
