Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has announced that his administration is prepared to implement a ₦70,000 minimum wage for state workers.

Speaking with journalists in Makurdi, Governor Alia explained that his administration has successfully blocked financial leakages. He emphasized that his team is dedicated to ensuring the smooth functioning of state operations.

“Despite the challenging economic conditions, we have implemented measures that are beginning to yield positive results. Our internally generated revenue has seen an uptick,” the governor stated. “It’s now up to us to eliminate any remaining inefficiencies to maximize our financial resources, including meeting salary obligations.”

Governor Alia expressed confidence in the state’s ability to meet the new wage standard set by the Federal Government. “With our focused approach and clear objectives, we are capable of aligning with the Federal Government’s directive. The effectiveness of any government hinges on its workforce, so it’s crucial that we compensate our civil servants according to the approved minimum wage,” he concluded.
