Mother of Three Dies During Encounter with Ex-Lover at Hotel

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a 42-year-old man, Tuamene Nwibiagbor, following the death of a mother of three during an encounter at a hotel in Port Harcourt.

Nwibiagbor, reportedly preparing for his own wedding, fled the scene after discovering the woman’s death, under the pretense of fetching something outside, leaving her body behind in the hotel room.

A police source revealed that the deceased woman had reconnected with Nwibiagbor, her former classmate and lover, after meeting by chance. They decided to meet at a hotel to rekindle their past relationship.

Tragically, Nwibiagbor was engaged to another woman, with a wedding date set for April 27, 2024, when this incident occurred.

According to the source, Nwibiagbor and the deceased had been in a relationship back in 2010 while they were students at Rivers State College of Education (now Ignatius Ajuru University of Education). They had lost contact over time but reconnected when Nwibiagbor was out shopping for his wedding.

Their meeting was arranged for March 14, 2024, at a hotel in Rumuigbo. After dining and drinking, they retired to a room. During their encounter, the woman began convulsing and sneezing before passing away.

The incident took place at De Reggy’s Hotel in Port Harcourt. A hotel staff member discovered the woman’s lifeless body after noticing she hadn’t left the room hours after her expected checkout time, and the man had not returned.

It was later uncovered that the woman had lied to her husband, claiming she was attending a friend’s wedding in Port Harcourt. The husband, devastated by the news, had no prior knowledge of her true whereabouts.

Nwibiagbor fled the scene and switched off his phone. When hotel staff could not reach him, they alerted the police, who then found the deceased woman’s body and began their investigation, eventually leading to Nwibiagbor’s arrest at his church.

Detectives tracked Nwibiagbor to the Methodist Church at Rumukalagbor, where he was serving as Youth President. He had delivered a dramatic testimony in church, falsely claiming he had escaped a kidnapping attempt on the day of the incident. His wife and congregation were unaware of the true events until his arrest.

Even in custody, Nwibiagbor initially denied his involvement, but a search of his home revealed evidence linking him to the incident. He later admitted to being with the deceased at the hotel, claiming he fled because he didn’t know how to help her when she began convulsing.

The Rivers State Police Commissioner, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the officers for their swift and professional response. He confirmed that an ongoing investigation aims to determine the exact cause of the woman’s death and assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in uncovering the truth.
